The Currumbin Valley Veterinary Services was the first dedicated bird, reptile and exotic veterinary practice established in Australia. The principal veterinarian, Dr. Peter Wilson B.V.Sc. M.A.C.V.Sc, has over 30 years experience in treating birds and reptiles.

We have a holistic approach with regards to the treatment of animals in our care. We look at the “whole” animal (e.g.. its diet, husbandry, environment etc) and not just it’s presenting symptoms. This is because the majority of health problems relating to reptiles and amphibians are caused by incorrect diet and husbandry. Similarly, with bird patients, 75% of all health problems relate to incorrect diet. Therefore, to treat these animals effectively, it is necessary to examine all aspects of diet, husbandry, enclosures, cage set up and the relationship between the owners and their pets.

As a result, we place a great emphasis on education of our clients in order to make them more aware of the specialized needs and requirements of their pets. Handouts are available on all aspects of bird and reptile health.

Consultations in most veterinary surgeries are 15 – 20 minutes in length. Whereas in our practice, our consultations range from 30 – 60 minutes in length, depending on the needs of the client. We take the time to address all aspects of your bird/reptile health and well-being.

Sick or injured animals are hospitalized and treated. We find that we getter better results treating animals “in house” rather than expecting owners to inject, bathe eyes, treat wounds and force feed their pets etc.
